Rain Rain Go Away: A Case Dilemma

by on September 8th, 2010

I was heading to the traditional university bookstore last week, when I came across a problem of epic proportions.

I have been happily transporting my iPad in the stylish and classy DodoCase. It’s small, it’s unique, and it lends an air of old world sophistication to the new world tech. And let’s be honest, it goes perfectly with my designer handbag. (Ladies, you know what I’m talking about.)

And then something happened, that I should have foreseen, that shattered my happy, blissful world.

It rained.

Suddenly I was kicking myself for not thinking more practically when choosing a case. I tucked my iPad and beautiful DodoCase under my sweater as if they were top secret government documents which would be destroyed if they came into contact with the acid like rain. I ran from building to building to bus shelter, weaving around students like a motorcycle with no regard for speed or public safety on a summer highway.

No where was safe. I was wet from head to toe. My sweater was drenched and failing as a makeshift shield.

I finally reached the relative safety of the bus, and I found myself a seat where the fewest prying eyes could look in on my plight. As I carefully unwrapped my iPad and case from my sweater, I could see the damage had already been done.

Water on my screen. Water on the handcrafted bamboo and faux leather exterior. Panic filled my heart.

I frantically patted it dry with whatever portion of my clothing was left untouched by rain, and looked to assess the damage.

A sigh of relief escaped my lips. My iPad was fine, as was my DodoCase, although I knew in that instant that they wouldn’t survive another surprise attack from the elements. I had to come up with a better solution.

I made my way home, plotting and planning possible solutions. Should I abandon all sense of fashion and style and go practical? Should I consider not bringing my iPad to class altogether? No. There had to be a way to meet all my needs. I stopped by Best Buy to check out my options.

I soon as I saw the words ‘stain resistant’, ‘water proof’, and ‘padded’, I snapped it up! The Slick Case by Acme Made SanFrancisco, just might be the answer to all my prayers.

So far it has been everything I wanted. It keeps my iPad dry, and I like the slight padding. Now I don’t have to worry about it being jostled around in my bag. It’s a black zip folio, and I have no qualms about how it looks. It’s simple, and it is functional. Basically, it is the case of my dreams.

Do not despair DoDo lovers, I still have and cherish my DoDoCase, but I think it will be a fair weather, show off, kind of case.

It looks like a great case. I have to wonder if the “storage” area is large enough to hold a keyboard.

I was going to order one, but when I saw that the shipping was equal to half of the price of the case, I bowed out. I wish more companies used USPS rates for shipping rather than courier rates.

An Arc’teryx Alpha SV will solve this problem.

Awesome. The Dodo case is very nice. Your stories remind me when I was in university running from this despicable westcoast rain!

Hey Allen! Thanks for your post! The storage area isn’t big enough to hold my keyboard dock, which is slightly problematic today. I’m going to be looking for a new solution. Maybe a wireless keyboard?

About the Dodo Case… Yes shipping rates were killer and it took a long time to arrive. I’m happy with it, but I only recommend it if you have the patience of a saint.

Sounds fancy! Tell me about it! What about it do you like or recommend?

Sena Cases.com have a great case that holds the keyboard as well. Sena in my opinion make the best quality cases for Apple products – by far. They are pricier but they worth it for the quality that you get.
