Last week we wrote about a hot tip where you could watch Netflix US shows using your Netflix Canada account via a VPN. This method works great on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac/PC.
Let’s recap what you have to do to get this up and running.
- iPad and Apple TV2 both running iOS 5 beta
- Netflix Canada account
1. Setup HotspotShield as your VPN on your iPad:
Settings -> General -> Network -> VPN -> Add VPN Configuration
Enter the following details:
Select the IPSec tab/pane
Use Certificate: OFF
Group Name: hss
2. Turn on the VPN via Settings. You should see a tiny ‘VPN’ icon in the Status Bar. Force close Netflix from the multitasking tray, then launch it again. This ensures traces of Netflix Canada won’t remain.
If you did everything correctly, it will take you to the US library, below:
3. Double tap Home, swipe to the left, tap the AirPlay icon, and select AirPlay Mirroring. You should see your Netflix title stream right to your Apple TV.
Widescreen titles stream in widescreen, and at times the setup was a bit choppy but it will depend on your internet connection at home.
The HotspotShield VPN seems to turn itself off after a minute or two, but as long as you can get your show streaming prior, it’ll work fine. If your iPad screen goes to sleep, your movie will pause.
Have fun, and let know how this setup works for you!
