by on June 25th, 2010

Apple’s MobileMe service includes a variety of features, but one of the coolest is the Find my iPhone feature. When turned on, you can locate your iPhone, send it a message, and remote lock/wipe the phone. For people who are looking for the ultimate security of their device, it’s a great service to have. What about setting up your MobileMe account to work with the iPad? It can be done and it’s simple to setup. Let’s go over the details!

How to Setup MobileMe Find my iPhone for the iPad

1. Grab your iPad. Go to Settings –> Mail –> Add Account –> mobileme. Enter in your account details.

2. Under Account Info, make sure the Find my iPad toggle is ON. Also ensure that you have Notifications ON as well under Settings–>Notifications.

3. To track your iPad, login to me.com or use the Find my iPhone app (iTunes link) on another device. Or, install it on your iPad to test it out for fun.

Although Find my iPad will work best for those with data plans on an iPad 3G, Find my iPad also works for WiFi only models as well. My location on my WiFi iPad is very accurate considering it’s via WiFi triangulation and there’s no GPS. Here are a couple pictures of the Find my iPhone app on my iPad:

The Find my iPhone app installed on your iPad is a great way to “track” your iPhone and vice versa. You never know when you’ll need to locate your lost or stolen iPad. But when you do, this service could be a lifesaver. Let me know how this works out for you!
