Day 1 of my trip to the UK and I immediately met with an iPad wifi woe trying to log into the hotel’s network. After connecting to the ‘open’ wifi I was taken to a login page that asked for both a username and a password, which had been provided by the hotel. I entered these but was left floundering on the login page. I couldn’t click on ‘Go’ from the keyboard or ‘Connect’ on the login page.
Frustration ensued (along with a good dose of disconnect anxiety) and, with no in-house IT team to help me out, I finally found an Apple support forum thread that solved the problem. All I had to do was turn off autofill in the Safari settings (Settings>Safari>Autofill – Off).
No doubt, many of you clever readers out there already know that apparently the problem is that Safari’s autofill tries to open a dialogue box asking to save the password at the same time as the login page is closing. This makes the page just hang there. However, with autofill turned off, the problem is immediately resolved. Phew.
