Review: WordPress for iPad

by Christopher Aceto on May 6th, 2010

I have been using the WordPress app on my iPhone for just over two years and it has always felt like an unfinished app. It crashes and freezes. I’ve lost countless articles in draft – after hours of writing. The app has always had bugs.

Queue WordPress for iPad – the slightly less intelligent cousin of WordPress for iPhone.

The app is sluggish and inconsistent. It lacks features which should be relatively basic to implement at this point such as copy/paste, insert image (properly) and maybe even insert HTML link.

It’s becoming quite a nuisance, and with the lack of multi-tasking support on the iPad with OS 3.2 it’s very difficult to copy links into posts or embed youtube videos.

I’ve also tried creating posts using WordPress via mobile Safari. Unfortunately, the iPad doesn’t recognize the text input box as such, which basically renders it useless. Not to mention that you can’t upload any images from the iPad because of it’s non-existent files system.

Does an alternative to the WordPress app exist? I really hope someone takes the time to perfect the next version.
