Review: Jubilee (An Elegant Birthday Reminder For The iPad)

by on August 31st, 2010

I’m good at remembering a lot of things in my life, but birthdays are not one of them. I’ll never have to miss another birthday greeting again though thanks to Jubiliee.

Jubiliee for the iPad has a beautiful interface, great functionality and a nice selection of eCards to justify it’s $3.99 price tag.

Jubilee automatically imports birthdays from your Address Book contacts and displays them on nicely visualized calendar. If you have photos assigned to your contacts, the app really shines. Birthdays are displayed as photographs of your friends, pinned to a calendar. It’s a great way of visualizing a month’s worth of upcoming birthdays.

The app uses push notifications remind you that a birthday is coming up or that it’s happening that day.

A month of birthdays at a glance

The application also boasts a selection of very nicely designed eCards that can be customized and sent from the app. You can personalized the card with your friend’s name, a custom message and even your signature. An image of the card is then sent via your email to your friend. If you want a greater selection, there are currently two very professionally designed card packs available for in-app purchasing. At $0.99 each they’re a steal.

If I have any gripe it’s that it doesn’t automatically integrate with Facebook. It instead relies on your possibly less than perfect address book data. It would be nice if the app automatically imported images and birthdays from your Facebook contact list and let you post to a friend’s wall directly from the app.

So before getting Jubilee, I would suggest using the freeware software AddressBookSync which will download profile pictures and other Facebook data to your Address Book. That way you’ll have photos and birthdays associated with a larger selection of your contacts.

I definitely rely on this app to keep me from looking like a forgetful jerk come birthday time. Check it out and see what you think.

Great review! The calendar image reminds me of the “olden” days when I used a paper calendar.

For birthdays, I usually set google calendar alerts that repeat yearly. That had worked well too :)
