Updated PwnageTool and redsn0w to Jailbreak iPad 1 on iOS 4.3.3

by on May 8th, 2011

If you’ve been waiting to update your jailbroken iPad to iOS 4.3.3, you can do so as PwnageTool and redsn0w recently were updated for the latest firmware. If you’re familiar with jailbreaking iOS, doing so on your iPad should be no different.

The steps to jailbreak with redsn0w would be as follows (in a nutshell; also check out this post for step by step):

1. Download iOS 4.3.3 for iPad. Download redsn0w:

Make sure you have the latest iTunes installed.

2. Sync iPad in iTunes to backup everything. Update to iOS 4.3.3.

3. Run redsn0w and follow the instructions. The hardest part will most likely be getting into DFU mode. Once successful, the jailbreak will work its magic.

Unfortunately, iPad 2 users will have to keep waiting for a jailbreak, but one is expected soon. It’s probably best to not think about it, as it will come.

Let us know how redsn0w works for your iPad!

I’ve jailbroken my iPhone on my mac and now it refuses to do an update or restore on my iPad 2 to the latest 4.3.3. Anyone know how to solve this problem? The progress bar on the iPad while restoring would simply get stuck about 2/3 of the way and iTunes simple refuse to update it. I use my PC to do the restore and it works. So it seems like something in the Mac that is used to jailbreak my iPhone etc is preventing my iPad 2 to update or restore on my mac

Went to the Apple Store and the Genius says they would have to do a full erase on my Macbook Pro to get it working again as they do not support computer that jail broke iphone or ipad. I saw the guy did something in the terminal screen that removed some addresses etc. but still it would not work.

Don’t want to wipe my Macbook Pro clean. Will use my PC for update and restore I guess but I have no backup and have to re-install everything to iPhone or Ipad all the time. 🙁

I believe I do. I will look into it and get back on this. Hope it would help!

  • If you do, that is the culprit. Uninstall it, and you should be fine.

    Hey Gary,

Promise this would be last here. Backup option has been missing in my iTunes (right click on the device to reveal backup option). I’ve googled it but the solution seems to be typing this line in terminal?

defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool false

Question is I see the terminal screen then what? Never used terminal before.

Do you know what the solution is beside the command line option above?

The command line seems to work. Just copy and pasted in Terminal and hit enter. Relaunched iTunes and the Backup option re-appeared. 🙂

As part of the jailbreaking, we should backup everything and I imagine all the game saves are backed up when I restore from the latest backup after jailbreaking instead of selecting the iPad/iPhone as a new device?
