There has been some significant news on the jailbreak front for iOS devices thanks to the hard work of @pod2g. His work has resulted in the release of updated tools for an untethered jailbreak for the iPad 1 on iOS 5.0.1.
All you have to do is use redsn0w via The iPhone Dev Team (or use Corona in Cydia via the Chronic Dev Team if you’re already tethered on iOS 5.0.1). All iOS devices with A4 chips will benefit from this jailbreak.
Update #2: The b2 version of redsn0w includes the launchctl-related fix by @planetbeing as mentioned by @saurik here and here. As usual, you can just re-run redsn0w in jailbreak mode over your existing 5.0.1 jailbreak (even a PwnageTool one), making sure to de-select “Install Cydia” if you do. Always be sure to do a controlled “slide to power off” shutdown of your device before running redsn0w.Here are the redsn0w download links:
Follow our guide here on how to jailbreak your iPad with redsn0w.
As for the state of the iPad 2 jailbreak, @pod2g is working on that as we speak. So stay tuned.
