So you can finally jailbreak your iPad 2 (YES!!), but so what? What can we do now that we are jailbroken? Well, the first thing to do is to jump into the Cydia app and check out all of the new apps and tweaks (free/paid) at your disposal.
Today, we highlight one of those tweaks called “RetinaPad”.
Without a doubt in my mind, one of the most requested features for the iPad is Apple’s Retina display. We saw this display technology debut on the iPhone 4 and then later on the fourth-generation iPod touch. By then we expected the Retina display to debut on the iPad 2, but alas no such luck. Enter RetinaPad.
With your new jailbroken iPad, RetinaPad simulates the Retina display. Currently, if you use an iPhone-only app on the iPad and choose to scale it up to fill the iPad display, the app looks horrible because it is being stretched instead of using better resolution settings.
With RetinaPad, scaled up apps are sharpened to help remove some of the pixelated view. While it is not 100% perfect Retina display, it is pretty good for a tweak on a screen that is not an Apple Retina display.
Once installed, RetinaPad is accessible from the iPad Settings app. At the bottom of Settings you will see a menu for RetinaPad. From here you can easily select which apps you want to enable for RetinaPad.
RetinaPad is available in the Cydia store for $2.99.
