Another day, and another ‘report’ from Digitimes. Yesterday the overseas publication noted two models of the next-generation iPad would debut in January at iWorld (formerly Macworld), but that rumour was crushed by The Loop.
Now, sources tell Digitimes Apple could adopt a new flat panel, IGZO (indium gallium zinc oxide), rather than the current IPS (in-plane switching) displays found in current iOS devices.
Starting with the new iPads, Apple will utilize IGZO panels from Sharp in order to upgrade the display resolution of the new tablets to full HD level, the sources indicated.
Sharp is rumoured to produce a high resolution display for the upcoming iPad 3, as reports from late November previously mentioned IGZO displays would be capable of 330 PPI (the current iPhone 4/4S Retina Display has 326 PPI).
IGZO panels would result in a thinner device that would result in lower power consumption, improving battery life.
