Samsung 2560×1600 Tablet LCD To Be Future iPad Retina Display?

by on May 13th, 2011

Good news for those waiting for an iPad with a Retina Display, as we may see one next year! TUAW reports that Samsung is ready to demonstrate the industry’s first 2560 x 1600 10.1″ LCD next week at the SID Display Week 2011 International Symposium.

Samsung’s demo will mark the first time this display resolution has been available to the tablet market in 10.1 or less inches. While there is no official release date for the display tech, Samsung expects to have commercial availability in late 2011.

One of the main factors that makes this new display of “Retina” quality is that the screen comes in at a density of 300dpi. While this particular display may not appear in a future iPad, the technology behind the Samsung display makes it ideal for the rumored iPad 3.

The Retina Display iPad is just around the corner!

I guess the question comes down to the cost. Can Apple gets it while maintaining the current cost of the various models.

I wonder about content. 60 inch TVs max out at 1080p. Sure you won’t see the LCD pixels, but you will see artifacts in the content.

Still, if they can do it will will be nice. Just hope it doesn’t hurt performance too much. The Ipad 3 will have to have a powerful CPU to handle this.
