Rumors Of iPad Mini & iPhone 5 With Larger Display Get Stronger

by on November 15th, 2011

A recent report published by IDG news service claims that Apple is in talks with LG Electronics regarding production of 7.35-inch displays for a smaller iPad, dubbed as ‘iPad Mini’ as well as 4-inch displays for the iPhone 5. A meeting between the two companies is said to be scheduled for later this week with one of the main agendas being Apple’s plans to introduce a smaller tablet. Both will reportedly discuss displays for the next-generations of iOS devices as well. However, both LG and Apple have declined to comment on the report.

An “industry insider” who spoke to the Korea Times made reference to an “iPad mini” and the iPhone 5 after approaching the newspaper with details of a new deal between Apple and LG Display concerning displays for future iOS devices.

“Next year’s iPhone to feature a 4-inch display by LG Display, half an inch larger than the 3.5-inch display and retina display resolution will remain unchanged because LCD is currently being regarded as the right solution to offer value with better cost-cuts,” the unnamed executive reportedly told the Korea Times.

The iPad mini rumors have been around quite a while now but we haven’t seen any ‘leaked parts’ from the supply chain so far. By the way, do we really need an iPad Mini?
