Oui Want An iPad For Cheaper

by on September 30th, 2010

For our friends in France, something great is coming your way!

Almost all network providers in France are currently in discussions with Apple, not about the iPhone 4, but instead data packages for the iPad 3G. What this could mean are lower prices for iPads with a contract. Of course, when most consumers hear of the word contract they tend to stray away from it,  for once a contract might actually might not be all that bad.

For those who use the iPad 3G, having data on the go is the main reason for the extra ~$100 difference. At the moment, for carriers around the globe, data services for the iPad are currently month to month, so why not throw a one year contract or two year contract on there for a subsidized iPad?

The carriers in France are currently trying to push for this deal with Apple in time for Christmas shopping. According to the French newspaper “Les Echos“, this deal will most likely find an agreement as Apple is trying to promote this new niche market. There are also rumours of discussions in other parts of the EU.

However, would this new move mean carrier locked iPads? What would this mean for the future of the iPad?
