A new report from Digitimes takes a look at Pegatron, a company that is an alternate assembly partner for Foxconn, and claims that the company has received orders for a new iPad by the end of 2012 and that a 7-inch iPad may debut this summer.
This first claim about a 10-inch iPad by year-end is an odd one considering Apple’s historical iPad release cycle. Normally launching in the March to April timeframe, a winter release for a new generation iPad shortens the product life cycle of the current third generation iPad. Moreover, historically Apple has rarely launched any major products in the winter months.
The second claim in the Digitimes report indicates that Foxconn will be manufacturing a small 7-inch iPad that would debut this summer in August. The 7-inch iPad rumor has been around for a few months with arguments that agree and disagree with the idea.
Digitimes has had a mostly unreliable track record with regards to Apple rumors, but they’ve had a few gems come true in the past. Whether or not these iPad devices will actually launch remains to be seen.
