Initially discovered by Giz-China.com, a bunch of purported iPad Mini protective cases have hit the web suggesting a rear-facing camera in addition to a mysterious tiny hole at the centre, which the source believes could well be for a new rear-facing microphone (via Apple Insider).
These third-party cases are allegedly designed to fit Apple’s much rumored smaller iPad a.k.a the iPad Mini. The cases show space for a camera at the top left of the device while the other hole at the back is located somewhere between the camera lens and LED flash.
“It has been speculated that the space on the new iPhone could be for a new rear-facing microphone that would improve audio quality when shooting video. It’s possible that the empty space on the third-party cases purportedly for Apple’s smaller iPad could also be accommodating for a new rear-facing microphone.”
Another leaked portfolio-style iPad Mini case shows cutouts for a smaller dock connector as well as a forward-facing FaceTime camera.
In contrast, alleged engineering samples of Apple’s smaller 7.85-inch iPad which were leaked in July gave no indication of a rear-facing camera or microphone.
