MacRumors reports KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo notes a new ‘iPad Mini’ will launch shortly after the next-generation iPhone, along with a beefed up iPad that will have new internals to address thermal issues and reduce supply chain costs. Moreover, Kuo notes production will ramp up in August, and the launch for the new iPad and the iPad Mini will be later in September:
Though shipments of iPad mini’s components will start in August, the new iPad line will end production, ready for transition to a modified New iPad line. As such, component shipments will drop in August as iPad mini’s components shipments growth will be offset. On a side note, the modified New iPad shares the same exterior as the original model, but contains modifications to correct its thermal dissipation problem and lower-cost components.
Kuo also predicts a massive 2012 fourth quarter in terms of units sold, and notes 55 million iPhone and 24 million iPad sales.
This September is also the rumoured timeframe for Apple to launch iOS 6 and the new iPhone. It would make sense for a minor iPad refresh to take place (of course the design would remain the same), and the new mini iPad would be definitely a surprise element to any announcement. Expect more leaks and rumours to pop up as Summer winds down.
