A brave Foxconn worker has reportedly succeeded in leaking out an iPad mini rear shell from the factory and is looking to sell it for 38,000 RMB (approx. US $6000) in Shenzhen, China. While no buyer has apparently committed to buy it so far, a bunch of local case makers have used its dimensions to create a mold of an iPad mini and are now selling iPad mini cases online for as low as 80 cents (via MicGadget).
According to the source, an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) found this iPad mini rear shell while he was doing an acceptance test
“He took some photos, and he goes on to claim that, when he finally got his hands on arguably the world’s most awaited mini tablet’s rear shell, he could feel the build quality is superb, and it surely comes from a factory that has top notch precision machining services”.
Several iPad Mini cases based on this rear shell’s mould are being sold on China’s largest e-commerce platform, Taobao (similar to eBay), with prices starting at just 5 Chinese yuan (about $0.79). Check out the photo gallery of iPad mini cases below:
