Those who’ve bee following the iPad Mini rumor mill for the past several weeks would know that the alleged device, which is expected to be announced at a dedicated October media event, will most likely be an inexpensive, smaller 7.85″ iPad with a a super sleek bezel. While previous rumors have set the price tag for iPad Mini to be around $299, Rhoda Alexander, an analyst at IHS iSuppli, believes that Apple could sell the iPad Mini for as low as $249 for an entry level model (via CNET).
The analyst adds that $349 could be the price for the high end model which would come with 4G LTE.
Will Apple lowball the iPad Mini? That’s a crucial question for competitors staring down the barrel of a smaller Apple tablet, an analyst told CNET.
The answer comes down to whether Apple wants to “crush the opposition” or just maintain dominance, said Rhoda Alexander, an analyst at IHS iSuppli. “And the price point would be how they do that,” she said.
Meanwhile, Google is already anticipating the imminent arrival of the iPad Mini, in response to which it is advertising the $199 Nexus 7 tablet almost everywhere, including its default search page. However, Rhoda says that selling a Wi-Fi only Nexus 7 in the international markets will be much harder with a similarly priced iPad Mini having 3G/4G capabilities around, especially in Asia.
