For those waiting for the unannounced, but heavily rumored, iPad 3, Bloomberg reports that Apple is testing a new iPad that has a “higher resolution screen, similar to the one now used in the iPhone 4″.
Apple is also testing a new version of the iPad that has a higher resolution screen, similar to the one now used in the iPhone 4, one of the people said.
This “higher resolution screen” is otherwise known as the Retina Display, which debuted on the iPhone 4 and later the iPod touch in 2010. Sadly the Retina Display did not make it to the iPad 2 in 2011.
While the iPad 3 may feature the Retina Display, Bloomberg’s report interestingly notes that the screen resolution on this new iPad would be “one-third higher” than what is found on the current iPad 2.
Increasing resolution by one-third would be odd, especially considering that Apple doubled each dimension on the iPhone 4 to ensure easy scaling for apps. Because of this, it’s expected that the next iPad would do the same.
