With Apple confirming a media event next week on October 23rd to most likely announce their smaller iPad, expect last minute rumours to explode leading up to next Tuesday. Geeky Gadgets (via MacRumors) claims in an ‘exclusive’ report the mini iPad will become available in the US and UK on November 2nd:
Our source, who is someone close to a major UK retailer, and has been reliable in the past, has told us that Apple will start selling the new iPad Mini on Friday the 2nd of November, the device will be available in the US And UK on this date, possibly some other countries as well.
9to5Mac also tweeted about what they’ve heard about a November 2nd release:
We’ve heard whispers of Nov. 2 iPad Mini release date but nothing confirmed. Date makes sense (Friday) and we know stock is ramping

The pre-order date for the smaller iPad could take place on Friday, October 26th–which is conveniently the same day Microsoft will unleash its simultaneous Surface tablet and Windows 8 launch. Given how yesterday Apple conveniently released its media invitations at the same time as the pricing and pre-orders were announced for the Surface, I would place bets on a Friday iPad mini pre-order.
As for Canada, we have been part of the initial launches for the iPad 2 and the current 3rd generation iPad, so if history repeats itself expect Canada to be included as well at launch. But of course this is a brand new product so release countries could be limited initially, like it was for the original iPad. But, Apple has improved and tweaked its supply chain as we saw with the aggressive iPhone 5 rollout, so don’t be surprised if the new ‘iPad Mini’ is ready to sell this upcoming holiday period in Canada at launch.
