Repair firm iLab Factory is claiming (via 9to5Mac) that it has obtained an iPad 3 rear shell and a dock connector cable in addition to a high resolution 9.7″ Sharp display which are all found to perfectly match together further suggesting that these leaked parts are in fact genuine. It seems that the iPad 3 will be slightly thicker than the current iPad 2 (approx. 1mm), most likely due to a larger battery which is required to support the higher resolution display. The back panel is found to be the same width and height as on iPad 2 with Sharp’s 2048 x 1536 resolution display turning out to be a perfect fit.
As detailed by the source:
Screw holes on the back plate are in the all the right places, so the Sharp back panel fits the iPad 3 back plate’s mounting screw holes perfectly. This fact led the author to conclude with a high degree of certainty that Sharp’s Retina Display LCD panel is designed for the leaked iPad 3 chassis. Additionally, the way the LCD panel’s cable folds and connects to the base reinforces the thesis. The supposed iPad 3 dock connector also fits the slightly thicker product shell perfectly. The alleged iPad 3 case even has a camera hole almost indistinguishable from iPad 2 when viewed from the outside.
The source has posted a series of photos of alleged iPad 3 leaked parts which are shown below:
