7-inch Mini-iPad Coming Spring 2011?

by on April 8th, 2010

This morning Digitimes is reporting that Apple may be building a new 5-7 inch mini-iPad for the first quarter of 2011. The report indicates that the price would be sub-$400, which would place this product between the full Apple iPad and a fully subsidized iPhone.

A smaller iPad would definitely be targetting smaller mobile devices such as Dell’s Mini 5 but a lower price would put a new iPad directly in line with the Amazon Kindle.

At a lower price and smaller screen size, there would not be much difference between an iPhone and a mini-iPad. What do you think? Is a smaller iPad something that would interest you?

This is hands-down the most ridiculous idea I've ever heard. Personally, I think the point of the iPad is to be kind of like a beginniners' computer. I'm actually trying to get my grandmother to buy one to use as her main computer for several reasons…she carries a stack of photos of her grandchildren everywhere she goes, so the photo organizing interface would be brilliant for her, she would love the eBook reader, the games would be great to entertain the little ones, the simple Safari app would be perfect for the few times she checks her email, there's mobile radio apps, which she would love…Shall I continue? Anyway, this mini iPad would be nearly the same as an iPod Touch or iPhone, which is quite stupid as personally, I think the point of the iPad is to become a mini computer and this would make it more of a PDA without a phone, which is completely pointless.
