US iPad Reservation Pick Up Emails Arriving Now

by on March 31st, 2010

Are you one of Canadians that pre-ordered an iPad for pick up in the USA? If so, check your email inbox as your reservation email is arriving right about…now!

Early this morning, Apple began to send out reservation emails to those who pre-ordered and reserved an iPad. The email summarizes what to do when you arrive, when to arrive, and what product you have pre-ordered.

When you come in to pick up your iPad, you’ll be directed to a line for those with reservations. We’ll have Specialists ready to help you set up your iPad, free workshops, and more. We look forward to seeing you at the store.

Prospective iPad owners should make note that Apple Stores will only hold your reservation until 3PM. So it is highly advisable to be there early, as after 3PM, the stores turn on a “first-come, first-served” system and that will make it much more difficult to secure an iPad than using your reservation.

Please note that your reservation will be held only until 3 p.m. on April 3. After 3 p.m., iPad will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

As you head down south this weekend, make sure to bring your reservation email and some decent I.D. such as a passport (which you’ll need anyway) and a Driver’s License.

I've got an email into my neighbour to see if he's received his reminder.

Our dollar is doing pretty well right now too. If you can skip duty [at your own risk] you'll probably be saving a bit of money over the Canadian price- not counting gas of course. But you're going town there anyway, right? It was a previously arranged trip and it's a happy coincidence that it's iPad Saturday.

    Of course it is.

Hey, do you think it will be even worthwhile to go down if you do not have a reservation? I will be pretty close to the border on the weekend. Will there be a line for those that don't have reservations?

  • Launch day will be a mad house I'm assuming. You could get there early, and
get in line to buy the iPads of people who flake on their reservations and
don't pick up by 3PM. But I expect you'd be competing with people who will
be camping overnight (LOL). Check twitter as your best resource!!

I'm going down from Vancouver on Saturday with some colleagues from work to bring back four iPads.
Does anyone know how much duty and taxes we can expect to pay?

  • mrideas

You should expect to pay just GST & PST, rarely any duty, and on electronics if they did collect likely very low. The last time I crossed I'd spent about $500 and paid nothing. Just depends on who you get at the crossing.

I talked to a guy at the apple store in syracuse on weekend. he said to line up early without reservation. I may just risk it to try. Will let you know how hideous it is.

  • Sounds like it'll be a long wait, but could be entertaining. Fill us
