Reports this morning point to US Apple Stores changing their iPad inventory policy to better control shipments and meet customer demand. It’s reported that Apple Stores are holding onto iPad 2 shipments for one day to give employees a chance to properly count and organize inventory.
Store employees have reportedly indicated that the inventory that went on sale this past Tuesday was delivered on Monday. Employees further told shoppers that iPads were delivered Tuesday morning, which was apparently a “little white lie” to “avert the wrath of customers,”.
The source further claims that the strategy change may be due to the past iPhone 4 and original iPad launch experiences. During those launches, Apple attempted to get new inventory on sale as soon as possible, which is said to have created “utter havoc” for store staff, leading to inaccurate inventory listings.
Typically, Canadian Apple Stores have not held on to inventory when it is available for sale, but it will be interesting to see if this US-based change filters to Canadian stores next week.
