Second-Generation iPad Cases Appear With Back-Facing Camera

by on December 9th, 2010

With all of the recent second-generation iPad rumors floating around, it was only a matter of time before the accessories showed up!

This week, images showing cases for the next-generation iPad have been revealed, and information about the cases indicate that the next iPad may feature both a back-facing camera and an SD card slot.

The first case shows a rear snap-on shell that has an opening in the top left corner of the case to support an iPad back-facing camera. Both a front- and back-facing camera have been widely rumored for the next iPad and this photo at least claims that the back-facing camera is coming.

Looking down along the case, the accessory also features openings on the side and bottom which are presumably for the mute switch/volume rocker and the dock connector.

However there is another larger opening to the left of the dock connector, which today is the present location of the device’s speaker but why that opening is so large is unknown.

Another second-generation iPad case image shows a pair of black and white back shells. Just as with the previous image, these two cases show an opening for a back-facing camera in the top corner.

These cases also feature a cut-out at the top right side of the case for the headphone jack and another cut-out for the mute switch/volume rocker. Lastly, like the previous image, the large cut-out near the iPad speakers is visible, but this cut-out is somewhat smaller than in the previous image.

Another neat find is in the case descriptions which mention the support for a FaceTime camera (front-camera support) and an SD card slot. The SD, if true, could be part of the larger opening at the bottom of the cases near the current location of the iPad speakers.

What do you think? Are these cases legitimate? Will we see back- and front-facing cameras along with a SD card slot?
