On the eve of the iPad 3 announcement, Apple has released a new category in the App Store called ‘Catalogs’. Existing apps such as Catalog Spree have been placed into this new category which has yet to be fully implemented. The new category can be seen below, and when attempted to be viewed in iTunes, a blank page appears:
In response to an email query by MacRumors, the CEO Catalog Spree had this to say:
“Adding an app category is not something that Apple does lightly and we believe Apple’s decision reflects the importance of this usecase in the Apple App Store ecosystem.”
Earlier today, it was noted the App Store display on the iPad received a slight refresh for a faster layout, according to Apple Bitch.
Could an iPad 3 Retina Display bring out the best in catalogs? The iPad 3 is rumoured to also feature LTE networking and 1GB of RAM. Just this afternoon Future Shop and Best Buy in Canada announced $150 discounts off 3G iPad 2 models.
