New Apple iPad Commercial: What is iPad?

by on May 13th, 2010

Apple’s marketing team comes up with some pretty neat commercials. Just think of the Mac vs PC ads, “There’s an app for that” iPhone commercials, and more. With the iPad, a new commercial launched that seems to break from the simplistic Apple trend (the first iPad commercial debuted during the Grammy Awards). The flow of the commercial and the voiceover reminded me of a Droid Does commercial more than anything.

If you haven’t seen it, it’s available on Apple’s YouTube channel. Check it out below:

MacRumors says the above commercial pays homage to the Apple Newton:

What do you think of the commercial? I think it’s very effective in trying to explain what the iPad is all about.

Well, that should help get the word out about this thing!

Like it but how likely that students (whom has rich parents) will all pull out their iPads with the elements installed and start using it in the chemistry class. Maybe it's part of the school curriculum for all students to have iPads with textbooks and the elements installed before going to chemistry class. :)

The part I didn't find accurate is when it mentioned “200,000″ apps. That includes iPhone apps mostly, not iPad.

And the bit about “ALL the world's websites in your hands.”

Yup, definitely a bit far fetched, but nonetheless the iPad doesn't
have any viable competitors and is a pretty solid device out of the
    gate.

It's marketing, and therefore will always be glorified. I believe technically inclined people are more critical than those who don't live and work in that field. I wonder what real ME's think of CSI?

That said, it's a very clever commercial. It shows every aspect of what the iPad does. Typing, touch screen, mobile, social networking, use anywhere, books (for kids even), business apps….with a hip and catchy music track to boot.

I believe they picked he narrator to target a specific demographic. Mature, weathered sounding voice. Rough, but smooth. Speaks to the sophisticated, senior exec type….men, and women. (sorry if that's sexist…but who DOESN'T like a voice like Morgan Freeman?). Shows lifestyle, and business potential.

I rank it up there with one of my all-time favourite Apple commercials, the release of the 17″ and 12″ PowerBooks narrated by Jeff Goldblum.

Thanks for your opinion Grant. I do like this new commercial and it's a heckuva better than previous Apple commercials.
