iPad Gelaskins Review

by on April 16th, 2010

Gelaskins have been around for a while now, making skins for all kinds of devices. I’ve been using them on my iPhones and iPods, but they also make skins for laptops, netbooks, gaming consoles, and more. They feature original art from some great artists, all over the world. They also have some licsensed skins from big names like Marvel and National Geographic.

Joining their fleet, is the iPad. Gelaskins has many of their existing artworks from previous skins, now in iPad form. The package includes full coverage for the back, and a frame-like coverage for the front, that has cut outs for the home button and the ambient light sensor, ot the top. As always, the graphics are incredible, and really shine on the iPad.

The install is fairly easy, as long as you take your time, and have some patience. The back goes on pretty straight forward, but the front can be a little tricky, as it flops around, while you’re trying to line it up. The Gelaskin also, provides a more tactile grip on the front and back, and I found it much easier to hold the iPad, after installing the skin. After installing the skin, visit their website, on your iPad, and download the artwork to set it as your wallpaper.

Here’s my video review of Gelaskins for iPad:

Think you would be able to install a Zagg shield over a gelaskin? Only on the front. I'd like to have both on there.

On the front, that should work. I wouldn't put the gelaskin over the Shield though, as it might pull the Shield off, if you decide to pull off the Gelaskins. I haven't tried this; just guessing. ;)

Thanks! Yeah, I'm thinking I would put the gelaskin down first, and then the Shield over it. If i get sick of it I'll have to replace the Shield, but that's cool ;)

Does it make the iPad any less slippery to hold onto?

  • rorypiper

Yes, definitely. That was the first thing I noticed, after the install.
