iPad 3 to Get Refresh at ‘iPad Mini’ Event–Lightning Connector Update?

by on October 19th, 2012

9to5Mac reports the current 3rd generation iPad is set to get a refresh at next week’s iPad mini announcement, according to their sources. Pricing and capacity will stay the same apparently:

Apple will announce a refreshed version of its full-sized, 9.7-inch Retina display iPad at its media event October 23rd, according to our sources. These people say that the new version of the iPad will retain the same $499, $599, and $699 WiFi-only price points, and the LTE line will retain the current $629, $729, and $829 pricing.

iLounge reported in late July their sources noted the smaller iPad would get its own media event and the existing iPad would be updated for the new dock connector. iMore reported back in early August the entire iOS line up was set to get a new smaller dock connector as well.

The iPhone 5 and 5th generation iPod touch already have it, so expect all new iPads going forward to sport the new connector as well.

The following image below notes the SKUs for the upcoming iPad models with half of them beloning to the current new iPad and the rest for the ‘iPad mini’.

In mid-August, a part leak claimed to be the Lightning connector for the new smaller iPad. There’s so much happening that next Tuesday can’t come soon enough.
