The iPad continues to resign supreme in the world of tablet computing. As Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer pointed out during Apple’s Q3 2011 Earnings call, the company sold 9.2 million iPads in the June 2011 quarter.
This week, Motorola posted its own results which saw the company ship, but not necessarily sell, 440,000 Xoom tablets in their just ended quarter. Motorola further expects to sell 1.3 to 1.5 million tablets this year. Contrast that with Apple’s 9.2 million sold in their most recent quarter! Wow.
The success of the iPad should come as no surprise, where even here on Canadian shores Canadian iPad users lead the globe in Internet usage. The iPad is also crushing RIM’s Blackberry Playbook, which has seen lackluster adoption and has further moved Android over to become the king of enterprise.
