iPad 1 Prices Slashed, Starting at $419 in Canada

Boom. Apple dropped a bomb on the tablet industry today with the iPad 2 announcement. But that’s not the big news. The original iPad prices have been slashed. Here are the new changes, from the Canadian Apple Store:

WiFi Models:
16GB: $419 (was $549)
32GB: $519 (was $649)
64GB: $619 (was $749)

WiFi + 3G Models:
16GB: $549 (was $679)
32GB: $649 (was $779)
64GB: $749 (was $879)

The original 16GB Wifi model used to be $549 in Canada. It has been discounted by $130. That’s a massive discount after one year. If you sold your iPad before the iPad 2 announcement, consider yourself lucky! Refurb iPads in the US store are even cheaper.

Like Steve Jobs said, tablet competitors are going to have a hard time keeping up with Apple’s pricing. The new Android tablet from Motorola, the XOOM starts at $799. Ouch.

Here’s the most interesting part: they’ve been slashed in the US too, but only by $100, which makes the price difference 20$ now in Canada. Does this mean 20$ difference for iPad 2?

$419 is still more than what it should be! Don’t forget that at the time of initial iPad launch, US dollar was stronger compared to Canadian dollar while now it is the other way around (1CAD=1.025 USD) …so Apple should adjust their prices accordingly. Why should Canadians pay more than US customers for the same product !?

I was not talking about another brand! The iPad 16gb wifi price in US is now $399 (which is even less than CAD 399)… so why should we pay $419 for that?
