iOS 5 Hints at Upcoming iPad 3 Models?

by on June 7th, 2011

With yesterday’s huge WWDC 2011 announcement of iOS 5 and iCloud, many people were excited to go hands on with iOS 5 Beta for developers. iPhoneinCanada.ca has an exclusive hands on preview of iOS 5, which many features also apply to the iPad.

TUAW notes within the depths of iOS 5 lays some possible hints of upcoming iPad 3 models:

Specifically, there are declarations buried in the iOS system files that reference “iPad3,1″ and “iPad3,2.” Likewise, “iPhone4,1″ and “iPhone4,2.” The iPhone 5 will be a 4th generation unit because the iPhone 3G was technically 1st generation.

Earlier rumours stated a possible iPad 3 release this winter, but some part suppliers have said no. With iOS 5 coming this Fall, I’m guessing there could be a slight iPad 2 refresh, but it’s not really necessary at this point.

“The iPhone 5 will be a 4th generation unit because the iPhone 3G was technically 1st generation.”

Isn’t the iPhone 2G 1st gen? Why is the 3G considered 1st Gen?

Starting from 2G, the iPhone 5 should be 5th gen.

yup that’s why the iphone 4 was called the 4 because it was the 4th generation
