iOS 4.2 Released Today, ‘Find My iPhone/iPad’ Now Free

Today, Apple announced that iOS 4.2 will be released at 10AM PST for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. This is particularly important for the iPad as the device is finally receiving iOS 4 features.

Apple today announced that iOS 4.2, the latest version of the world’s most advanced mobile operating system, is available today for download for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. iOS 4.2 brings over 100 new features from iOS 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2 to iPad including Multitasking, Folders, Unified Inbox, Game Center, AirPlay and AirPrint.

Alongside the iOS update, Apple also announced that its Find My iPhone/iPad feature will now be free.

Find My iPhone/iPad is designed to assist users with locating lost iOS devices using GPS. The feature is now available for free to all users of Apple’s current-generation iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch free of charge. In other words, to the iPad, iPhone 4, and fourth-generation iPod touch.

Previously, access to this feature required a $109/year subscription which among Find My iPhone/iPad, also gave users other syncing related services.

To set up Find My iPhone/iPad, download iOS 4.2, sign up for a free MobileMe account and add the account Apple ID/Password to your iDevice. Users can also download the free Find My iPhone app to use in conjunction with the Me.com website.
