This week, Intel CEO Paul Otellini, long time Apple partner, took a few moments to praise the iPad during the beginning of the company’s earnings conference call.
However, the executive quickly changed his focus, revealing his goal of winning over the tablet computing segment.
During the call, Otellini was determined to increase the influence of Intel in the tablet computing market. While investors may need such reassurance, Intel is definitely coming after the iPad and it will probably be aggressive.
“I know the big question on everyone’s mind is how Intel will respond to new computing categories where Intel currently has no presence, specifically tablets…We think tablets are exciting and fully welcome their arrival. Apple has done a wonderful job reinventing the category”
The Intel executive was then quoted saying, “we will use all of the assets at our disposal to win this segment”. As many know, Intel is a huge player in computing, whether mobile or not and the company now looks forward to releasing tablets in the future based on operating systems from Windows, Android, and Meego.
These tablets will further feature varying price points and different form factors to appeal to a broad audience.
Like the iPad, Intel also has plans to integrate 3G and 4G capabilities in the tablets, allowing users to have a truly mobile and broadband experience.
We have all heard of “iPad Killers” that are supposed to be vastly superior to the iPad, but none of these devices have yet to take hold and remove the iPad from its pedestal. However, knowing the influence and innovation of Intel, could the iPad finally meet competition?
What do you think? Will these tablets from Intel be the “iPad Killers”?
