We have seen the success that Apple’s iPad has had over the last year. However, during the last year, many tablet competitors have emerged. Some of the major players include the Samsung Galaxy Tab, Palm Opal, Motorola Xoom, HTC Flyer, and the RIM BlackBerry PlayBook.
With so much tablet action, research firm IDC has released the “Canadian Media Tablet Market 2010-2014″. This report provides a forecast of the Canadian tablet market from 2010 to 2014.
IDC states that there will be “just shy of 1.5 million devices installed by the end of 2011 in Canada”. Installed, in this case, means the number of devices actually sold to consumers since 2010.
Krista Napier, a senior analyst with Canadian Emerging Technology and Digital Media, had the following to say:
“Media tablets turned heads in 2010 with the introduction of the iPad. With market demand now established, competing vendors are readying to launch their own versions of these multifunctional, lightweight devices. As a result, we can expect the next six months to be overwhelming in terms of product launches, screen sizes, platforms, price points, and feature sets that pick up where the first version of the iPad left off.”
Looks like 2011 will be the year of the Tablet.
