With iOS 4.2, the new AirPrint feature allows printing from your iPad. However, right now it’s limited to a select few HP printers only. Expect Apple to expand this in the future. But as of right now, there’s no way to bypass it.
Enter AirPrint Hacktivator for OS X. This hack will make your printer appear as an HP ePrint series to work with the iPad. From TUAW:
Download the installer from the link above, unzip it, run it, and then slide the toggle switch to “On.” Enter your Mac’s administrator password to allow AirPrint Hacktivator to make some changes, and then you’re done. Any shared printer will now show up in the AirPrint dialog on your iOS device. The AirPrint Hacktivator page has a short video that demonstrates how to share a printer if you’ve never done it before.
Be warned though, this hack contains some Apple-authored files that shouldn’t be there, so use at your own discretion.
