FullForce: Make iPhone apps Full Screen on iPad

by on May 9th, 2010

With the iPad finally jailbroken, we are seeing some great new tweaks show up in Cydia. More and more of our favourite jailbreak apps, from the iPhone, are being ported to the iPad.

One great new tweak, for iPad only, is FullForce. Basically, this adds an extra setting to the Settings app, allowing you to display iPhones apps installed on your iPad, at full screen resolution, without the pixelization. Before the jailbreak was even released we saw evidence of this, but you had to go into the file system of each app, and add a few lines of code to the info.plist file. This tweak accomplishes all of that with a simple toggle switch.

This is not a perfect port for iPhone to iPad, as some of the graphic elements for the apps, are only made to be viewed on a screen that is 320 X 480 resolution. All the core UI elements of the apps, should display at the iPads resolution, after toggling in settings.

FullForce sounds like an interesting option for a few iPhone apps to enlarge on iPad but of course some of the better iPad optimized apps do add great new functionality with split screen support which FullForce certainly would not magically create. Of course, there is the added cost for many of these enhanced versions. We live in exciting times.
