“Frash” To Bring Adobe Flash to the iPad!

by on July 4th, 2010

Comex, creator of the  Spirit jailbreak and the Bannerbomb exploit for Nintendo Wii, is working on bringing Flash to the iPad. A new video has been posted showing a few Flash based websites running in MobileSafari, on the iPad. This is something a lot of users of the iPad have said is missing on Apple’s tablet. There is no release date fo this yet, but this could bring a lot more iPad users to the jailbreak community!

Basically, this is a port of Flash for Android devices. The developer is also working on bringing this to iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.

Frash is a port of the Adobe Flash runtime for Android to the iPhone, using a compatibility layer, by comex ( http://twitter.com/comex ). Frash can currently run most Flash programs natively in the MobileSafari browser. Frash currently only runs on the iPad, but support for other devices (3GS+ only due to technical restrictions) is planned, as well as support for iOS 4.

A release is planned for when Frash is stable. Developers are welcome to join the effort athttp://github.com/comex/frash – fork it and send a pull request with your patches.

All the websites my 6 year old daughter visits, are completely built in Flash. There are tonnes for kids websites that have all kinds of fun Flash games, that I wish my daughter could play on the iPad. With this new hack, we could see Adobe Flash running on the iPad, very soon.

OMG! Steve Jobs has a challenge!

  • Looking at the video, Flash seems to be running pretty well on the iPad. I wonder how much it will affect battery life though.

  • Urso_mtl

Even if it drains the battery life down to say… 7,5 hours, it is still pretty good!

I thought the same thing. The iPad battery is brilliant enough that I think it would do pretty well.
My real hope is for HTML5 to flood over the net and change everything. I love the short load times of HTML5

It might not happen a few months, maybe the Holiday season!

I don't mind waiting. But knowing it's going to happen just gives me
one more thing to look forward to.

HTML5 is nowhere near ready for prime time – it's still in development mode and will be for several years. Considering that this link is from a software developer that publishes video conversion software for the Mac, there's a good chance that article is biased in favor of HTML5 and selling the conversion software.

Regardless, I'm still looking forward to it 😛
