The popular location-based social networking service Foursquare has just introduced a cool web app for iPad that brings a whole new HTML-5 experience. While most of the features resemble the native iPhone app, the web app further augments it with new social discovery capabilities optimized for tablets, especially the iPad.
The first thing you’ll notice when you load up foursquare.com and login on iPad is a big map on the top which shows everything interesting nearby. The place pages have been completely re-written. A new ‘List discovery’ feature lets you search for a particular venue visually, including guiding tours of places built using foursquare community knowledge.
Here is the official word from Foursquare blog:
As foursquare has evolved, the focus has turned from simply ‘checking in’ to sharing our experiences and expertise, unlocking rewards and deals, and exploring the world around us. And, though we spend a lot of time improving the app for your phone, we know that sometimes the best place to do those things is when you’re visiting the website from your computer. In the next couple of days, we’re rolling out the #new4SQ at foursquare.com, with a huge emphasis on discovery.
Acording to Foursquare, over a million people a day check-in on their website for information on a restaurant or museum. To improve this experience, they have revamped everything for better representation of photos, tips, and information.
