[Update] First iPad 2 SIM Card Orders Have Shipped in Canada

Update 2: Iris responded, and as some suspected it was for the SIM card, not the iPad 2. :(

Update 1: I’ve contacted Iris to see whether or not this is a SIM card or iPad 2.

The iPad 2 went on sale in Canada last Friday, and online ordering began at 1AM, PDT. Customers were quick to see that ship time estimates were put at 2-3 weeks, but according to iPadinCanada.ca user “iris”, the first orders have now shipped:

Just got shipping notice on my ipad 2. Bought at 4:06am on Friday. UPS tracking number says Thurs Mar 31!
Currently, ship times are at 3-4 weeks, although you can now reserve and pick up your iPad 2 in Apple Stores. Has anyone else received their email ship notifications?

    could possibly be a sim card, those have been shipping out early..
    some people were able to get the order in before 4:10EST through the education / french stores.

    can iris confirm it’s not simply a sim card that was shipped? (if it was a 3G iPad?)

    I ordered on March 25th at 1:10am PDT and mine still hadn’t shipped. Had estimated ship date as April 15th. I learned about the reserve and pickup and was able to secure my iPad this evening for pickup tomorrow! Just canceled my online order… My smart cover was prepared for shipment and couldn’t be cancelled.

    As everybody else here. It looks safe to assume that Apple announced directly 2-3 weeks wait time but would surprise us with a faster delivery if stocks / production goes well. I mean, do you prefer being told 7 days then be delayed another week, or be told 2-3 weeks and get shipping notificaton after 10 days ;-) Time will tell, but if orders made at 1:06 AM really did ship, well we will see toward the end of the week what happens for the 1:08-1:12AM ordering people.

    I ordered mine at 12:45 am on Friday (Mar 25), and I imagine that because I get the employee discount, the store was active before 1AM. In any case, I have not yet received a shipping notice, but hey: I can wait, eh?

    Checkout active first, accessories, iPads, front page.
    Would you want to beat the webmaster and have a 404 error after carefully selecting all your toys? Doubt it.
    The edustore and qc side store went up first because they link to the front page “buy now” button too. It takes some clicking, but it’s all connected.

    I was refreshing the apple site every minute and it only came online around 1:11am PDT for me (on march 25th)
    I bought the wi-fi only version because I already have an iPhone 4 (will us the hotspot feature to get my iPad online) & Fido does not offer any data plans. I would have only bought the 3G version if Fido offered a $10 add on to use my data. I also bought the black version – because as much as i like white (and people recognize it has the new ipad) there is too much contrast between the screen being off or on and the edge of the device being white. With the black bezel, the screen blends nicely.

    Still not shipped.
    However, my question is about the transaction itself. My credit card has yet to be charged. Do they charge the items as they ship? Or should I have already been charged?

    I ordered a black 64GB 3G iPad with a Bell SIM right at 1am PDT on Friday. I ended up getting the same model at Future Shop, so I cancelled my online order after I got back home with my iPad. Apple told me that they would cancel the iPad, but that the micro-SIM had already been processed. They charged me 23 cents for the SIM, and it arrived via UPS today. I got a Rogers SIM from my Future Shop purchase, since that’s all they had. So now I have both, and really got a good deal on the Bell one, since I think they normally cost $10 from the Bell store.

    Same here! My SIM card shipped Friday, March 25 and today i got an email that my Smart Cover has shipped. My Apple Account says my iPad will Ship April 15 and I ordered at 1:05AM PDT when it still said 2-3 weeks. However, now you can go onto an online retail store and reserve on for next day pick up…I might do that instead of waiting until April 22 to get it.

    On my order confirmation, all the items I ordered showed a shipping date of April 15. Today I received two separate notices that my video cable plug and my cover were being shipped. So it seems like those dates mean nothing. The iPad 2 could ship tomorrow or any day between now and then. Makes your heart stop when you see the notice, until you read what part was actually shipped. Also, you have to wonder how much money Apple could save by shipping all the items together but I am guessing they are all coming from different locations.

    I was going to order online because I worked Friday but decided not to because of the 2-3 week wait time. I went to the apple store sataurday morning waited 10 minutes and got mine (they still had about 25 of each type). Btw I’m typing this on my iPad 2.

    Why was there an instant 2-3 week delay for Canadians? Did apple not think about us and sell as many as they could to the states and then we have to wait for the back order to catch up?

    What bothers me is that Apple is restocking their stores before they fulfill their online orders. If people can now reserve and pickup at the stores then Apple is obviously releasing new stock to these stores yet my order, placed online within an hour of release still shows an April 15 ship date.

    I also just got the email about white red cover shipping today. Ipad black 64GB still not shipping. I’m guessing that the covers don’t ship from the same place just like my laptop and my wireless keyboard/mouse did not come together.

    April 22nd is probably a pessimistic estimate for the ipad2. I can wait, no reason to start chasing store inventory and cancelling online orders just for a few days.

    I just got notification that my red smart cover has been shipped and scheduled to be delivered on 04Apt by FedEx. According to FedEx’s tracking number, it is supposed to be delivered on 01Apr11. Can’t wait to get the extra protection!

    My leather smart cover is shipping from Shenzhen, China via UPS and is listed as weighing 0.40 kg. Not sure why they don’t just wait and ship it in one package. An iPadless smart cover ain’t so smart.

    Weird, the tracking page no longer shows the weight. It was definitely 6.0 pounds though. It’s showing as shipping out of Ontario, California. Is that just the cover then?

    The Apple email says cover (red leather), but the Fedex tracking shows 6.0 pounds (2.7kg) and that it’s shipped from Ontario, California. Should arrive tomorrow so we will soon see what the heck this is! I ordered the 64GB wifi version + red leather cover, with no other accessories.

    I ordered my iPad and Smart Cover at around 5:30 pm on the 25th (Launch day) and my Smart Cover just showed up! Unfortunately, like everyone else it seems, I’ll have to wait to use it as the predicted shipping date is the 22nd of april and delivery is a week later. Either Apple cares a lot less about Canada than I’ve originally thought or there is some serious back order on this stuff. I’ve NEVER had to wait so long for something from apple! I bought my computer (13″ Macbook CoreDuo) on launch and it shipped within the week! What I’d give to see the sales figures on these things… Anyways, looks like I can stick my Smart Cover on my fridge and cry about it to myself for the next month…

    After 9+ days, my ipad2 is “prepared for shipment”. What does this mean? After the appropriate period of meditation and contemplation has my little ipadlet finally reached a zen-like state where it is ready to embark on it’s journey to me? Has Steve Jobs passed down the assembly line and annointed the new crop with holy water? Or has the flow of latecomers who want to reserve an ipad for pickup at their local store finally dried up so Apple can now send product to the people who placed early orders online believing they would be dealt with in sequence?

    Started to think about the ordering/shipping process last night. I’d just ordered a pizza and I realised how fortunate I am that Apple hasn’t taken over my local pizza-pizza-pizza. Imagine: order pizza at 7:15 pm. 7:57, first delivery guy shows up with a conatiner of sauce and a package of melted cheese. 8:09, second delivery guy comes by to give me sliced sausage and mushrooms. 8:38, a check with the online ordering site provides me with a message that the crust is “not yet shipped”. 8:51. check again, no change in status. 9:16, status update – crust is prepared for shipping. 9:42, doorbell rings – weak with hunger I open door…

    I’m sure the pie is going to be worth it but c’mon Apple, get your act together…

    Very funny but unfortunately also very true. My white 64GB WiFi iPad 2 has not yet snatched the pebble from Steve Jobs hand and been deemed worthy of preparation for shipment. I am wondering if it is one particular type of iPad 2 that has reached the state of shipment preparedness?

    My black leather smart cover is patiently making its way through the UPS system and after leaving Shenzhen, China on March 30th has made its way from Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong to Anchorage, AK to Louisville, KY to Mississauga to Mount Hope, back to Mississauga to Concord, back to Mount Hope, back to Concord and finally to Kitchener where it is resting and plotting how to make it the last few kilometers to Guelph without being shipped back to Concord or Mount Hope. Hopefully when iPad 2 makes its trek from the Far East it will choose a more direct route.

    btw – the time stamp on my order is 1:02 PDT day of release so I do not think time of order is a major factor. More likely the particular model ordered.

    Apple annoys me!! I was out of town when they first went on sale, and the next day, I called the Apple stores to find out if I could go in and buy one that day. Since it would have taken several hours out of my day, I didn’t want to drive all the way there and find out there weren’t any. But when I called, they were really vague. They would not tell me how many of the model I wanted they had in stock. Just that they had at least one. They would not put one on hold for me. They would not allow me to give a credit card over the phone to put one on hold. Even when I explained how far I’d have to drive to get there, they would not help me out.

    So I ordered the iPad 2 and some accessories, including the SIM card. I was not given any shipping options. So Apple shipped my accessories. I don’t know why they didn’t just wait until the whole thing was ready. When I placed the order, I figured I’d get the iPad engraved because why not – it’s free.

    So now I’ve been hearing all about how you can reserve one and pick it up the next day. How nice of the Apple Store staff not to tell me that I’d be able to do that after a few days (NOT – WHAT A BUNCH OF JERK OFFS!)

    So I reserved one online for pickup in the store, and then attempted to cancel my online order, which says it hasn’t been engraved yet and won’t be ready to ship out for a few weeks yet. But it won’t let me cancel it, and it won’t let me cancel the engraving.

    When I try to cancel the engraving, it tells me that I have to cancel the order instead, and place a new order if I just want an un-engraved iPad.

    When I try to cancel the iPad, it tells me that I can’t cancel it because some items have already shipped. So it says I have to RETURN those items – AT MY COST – in order to cancel the iPad order. WTF???

    I don’t understand why I can’t just go into the Apple Store, pick up my iPad and keep the accessories that I’ve already gotten. Why do I have to return them, pay the shipping, and possibly pay a restocking fee, when all I want to do is get the friggin’ thing before I’m in a nursing home!!!

    IPAD WI-FI 64GB WHITE order placed Mar. 25 1:02 PDT – iPad status has moved from “Waiting to be Shipped” to “Prepared for Shipping”. Shipping date still showing as April 12 so not holding my breath or anything. I need the receipt to make a claim before year end – Apple Support tells me they will email the receipt to me once it has shipped if I ask nicely.
