Are You Lining Up for iPad 2? Coordinate Meetups Here

by on March 22nd, 2011

If you missed it–Apple officially announced iPad 2 launch times for Canada today:

MARKHAM, Ontario—March 22, 2011—Apple® today announced that iPad® 2, the second-generation of its third post-PC device, will go on sale in 25 additional countries this Friday, March 25. iPad 2 will be available at Apple retail stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers at 5 p.m. local time, and online through the Apple Store® (www.apple.ca) beginning at 1 a.m PDT

Are you planning to wait in line for an iPad 2? Use this post to coordinate with fellow iPad enthusiasts on where and when to meet up. Lining up overnight for an Apple product launch, as absurd as it may seem, is actually a lot of fun. I met so many great people during last year’s iPhone 4 launch.

This post will be a sticky leading up to Friday, so we can all coordinate stock, line ups and provide updates.

Things to Bring If You’re Waiting in Line:

  • Blanket, jacket, gloves, toque, ear warmers
  • Drinks, snacks
  • Foldable beach chair
  • An iPhone or iPad to keep yourself occupied

So let us know the following:

Where are you lining up?

When?

any news on how many people are at the sherway location so far?

or what stock levels are like at places such as Futureshop/Best Buy?

  • Melissa#57inline

I did it! I got to pee and security kicked the jerk out of line and the mall for good! I am a hero among the uberconsumeristic animals! Yay!

  • rox

I’m also alone in Granby, Qc Future Shop since the opening. I guess I’ll be able to choose the one I want. Some folks came in but didn’t know that the launch was at 5pm… they turned back. However, the funniest part is that it’s way more calm here than being at work or at home…

  • Tiffanywood

oh good! i am happy for you… :)

  • rox

Actually, I’m waiting inside a Future Shop in Granby, Qc… and I’m alone. So far the staff has been really friendly with me (without understanding why I’m freak enough to wait alone for a launch that will happen only in many hours).

  • rox

I totally understand you… at least we are 2 nuts (glad to know I’m not alone)

  • Djforward

Just got to west Ed mall, about 60 in line

  • Anonymous

My calls to mall management worked. They brought out chairs for people and me and my friend got the last 2, so that means only about 30 chairs. Everyone else is allowed to sit on the floor but not to bring in outside chairs. Moral of the story is if you are not happy with something, voice your concern and be heard! Not allowing patrons to sit on the floor in the designated lineup area for safety concerns is absurd.

  • Tcp

How many in line at the apple store in wpg?

  • Peter Nguyen

Gotta be at least 200 at fairview in Toronto. At least there giving at free Starbucks FTW!!!

  • Jskydart

  • Saintboniface73

About 60 in line at apple store in polo park Winnipeg!!! I am 22

  • asdmd

I pre-ordered playbook as well, if I can find a work around for flash ipad 2 all the way. I think they have set the std with the 10 inch screen, no clue why all these new tablets are so small? Very excited though!

  • ES

FutureShop pointe claire hs only 80!!!!! In stock :-)

  • Thedigitalevil

At Futureshop in Mississauga. Dundas and Dixie. Just arrived at 1pm and I’m first in line. Easily over 100 people at sherway apple store. Lineup at sherway is now outside the mall. Lol. Literally 5 minutes away there is NO lineup :)

  • DaveyJJ

OK, the line at Square One isn’t growing that fast anymore but there are, when I last counted, about 200 people here now in line. Apple staff are walking the line and slowly getting us pumped. Apparently, around 2PM there will be some sort of ticket hand out. We’ve already been asked is we have AppleIDs I guess to make sure the whole checkout process is going to be smooth and efficient. Have fun in line.

  • Gustavoslait

Any idea how many are in stock?

  • Paulo

About 250ish at upper Canada mall

  • asdmd

Anyone at Eaton Centre apple? Whats the line up like?

  • Sundoctor

What’s the lineup like at the Rideau Centre Apple Store in Ottawa?

  • dd28

Hows it looking at mac outpost – will they have any iPad2′s today at 5??

  • Trey

Ajax BB has 20+ people that I saw from a distance. (2:10PM)

  • Gustavoslait

How many Ipad2 Can I buy in FutureShop?

  • Gustavoslait

How many Ipad2 Can I buy in FutureShop?

  • Roger

Any one lined up at Ajax Best Buy?
What about Pickering Futureshop (used to be in Ajax, they moved)
i will be at Bestbuy around 5 PM. what are my chances of betting one?

  • Trey

Melissa in the future when you find yourself in that situation, be very vocal, and someone with some decency will eventually hear you. If I were in front of you and people told you that you”d lose your spot if you left the line, I would politely inform them that if they failed to let you back in, you would be joining me in FRONT of them. I believe that would take care of it :)

  • Canuck

Cat wait to get my hands on new ipad 2 but waiting in line for hours and eat snacks and huddle in blanket for my cravings ? no absolutely no.

Just think for a sec , folks around the world are lining up for water and food. Not just poor african countries . I’m talking about Japan. these folks are way more tech savy then us, one of the most advanced country. If you have enough money to give folks to stand in line then I would suggest donate that 10 bucks and wait for a week to get your ipad 2 . who know you may be standing in a food line like them some day ? Impossible ? think again.

  • Trey

    Roger,

I was at Ajax BB about 40 minutes ago, and there seemed to be 20-30 people there. But I am not sure if the line went down the west wall, which could mean a lot more people are there. Good luck

  • Srankin

Ordered on line this morning at 4 am… just got a shipment notice from Apple… mind you, it’s only the Rogers SIM card, but it’s nice to shipments starting for some of my order!!

  • Roger

    Trey

any suggestion? what if I try the Whitby BB? do you think i will have a chance there?

  • MJ

Anyone know the situation in MTL??? Need to figure out where to go… THANKS!!

  • 73061 213

Whether to donate to which organization or not is very personal and off topic. I come here to read about iPads in Canada.

  • Ttt

any guys in line square one apple store right now?

  • Teacher

Anyone know the situation around Calgary. I am a teacher and can’t leave my grade 2/3 class unattended.

  • http://www.iphoneincanada.ca Gary

Glad you’re thinking about your class! However, it would be interesting if
you decided to go ‘photocopy’ something for a while. ;)

Here’s my lineup video from Yorkdale mall 1 hr until iPad2 launch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rc1ruP5XTVM

  • SeanAndernacht

Hopped in line at futureshop at 3pm in Brampton and got the 16gb wifi white with no problem. And they gave us hot chocolate!
Hope everyone else had such luck

  • http://www.iphoneincanada.ca Gary
  • John

Woo Hoo! This is amazing, not only could I still go to work today, but I am now back in line (near the front) awaiting my iPad, and I sold 5 other slots in line to other iPad lovers…AND, I was able to get some homeless people drunk, paid and warm! Unbelievable concept..

  • FS

FYI FutureShop only allow 1 ipad2 per customer

  • FS

    BTW Vancouver here

  • Trey

Sorry was away. I would think Whitby was a better location. Big store, smaller town……

  • Jayo6969

did anyone in the durham region see if they had lots of stock at any locations

  • BangLoboy

Got to future shop at Richmond hill Ontario at 415pm (pretty large lineup but they did it INSIDE which was kind of them) – managed to pickup the 32gb wifi white! 4 ppl after me and sold out! Maybe random ones available! My wife played with the ipad2 and has decided she likes it so she’s gonna wait till April 22 (or earlier!) as I ordered one online as well

Awesome device though – like it more than the 1st Gen – good job apple!

  • Peterjuice

I only had to wait an hour at 5:00 pm to get mine at Carbon Computing in Toronto!

  • Dave in High Park, Toronto

walked into FutureShop at Keele /St Clair in Toronto at 5pm to do a non-related return. Saw a small line, and thought hey, why not ask. They were handing out tickets, and I got the 2nd last ticket – only choice was white 32GB wifi only iPad. Exactly what I wanted – I was undecided about colour – very happy with the white for a change. Talk about lukcy.

Guess I will cancel the 32GB black wifi only order I placed at the Apple Canada online store at 4:07 am – literally the minute they started selling them. Even though I was one of the very first online customers, the estimated wait time was 2 to 3 weeks, with estimated delivery right in the middle of my Mexican resort vacation. Can’t have that !

    Hey Gary,

I had made up an iPadinCanada.ca Meetup sign to meetup with Kai and Brenden. We were also at the Rideau Center, around the corner near the exit from where you were. I’m sorry to say that I didnt see you when I came to look around. I ended up pimping your website on Radio and Television when CFRA, CTV, CBC and the other people with cameras and video cameras came along, a little shameless promo for you! Had tons of fun hanging out with Kai, thanks to everyone who made it great experience!
