Apple’s ‘iPad Mini’ Event to Take Place on Oct. 23rd Says Report [Update]

by on October 12th, 2012

The last rumour we heard about rumoured iPad mini event invites being sent out this week turned out to be false. This time around though, AllThingsD reports Apple will unveil its smaller iPad on October 23rd:

As AllThingsD reported in August, Apple will hold a special event this month, at which it will showcase a new, smaller iPad. People familiar with Apple’s plans tell us that the company will unveil the so-called “iPad mini” on Oct. 23 at an invitation-only event.

That’s a Tuesday, not a Wednesday, so this is a bit of a break with recent tradition. It also happens to be just three days prior to the street date for Microsoft’s new Surface tabletand two days before Apple reports earnings for its latest quarter.

No location for the event was able to be confirmed, but it might take place at Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium, as a smaller event since the grand iPhone 5 event already happened. As for confirmation of this date? The trusty and well-connected Jim Dalrymple over at The Loop had this to say:

Yep.

That’s enough for me. Mark your calendars for October 23rd, folks. The 7.85-inch iPad mini is coming.

UpdateBloomberg notes an October 23rd event will take place according to their sources, and the new model will have a screen between 7-8 inches:

Apple may unveil a smaller version of the iPad at an event on Oct. 23, according to a person familiar with the matter who asked not to be named because the plans aren’t public.

The new model will have a screen that’s 7 inches to 8 inches diagonally, less than the current 9.7-inch version, people familiar with the designs said in July.

Update 2: Reuters notes their sources say an Oct. 23rd event is coming as well:

Apple Inc will host an event on October 23 where it is expected to unveil a smaller iPad that will take on the less expensive devices offered by Amazon.com Inc and Google Inc, a source familiar with the matter said on Friday.
