This is some awesome news for prospective iPad owners. Apple just released some battery replacement news on its website. If your iPad battery dies, you can pay $99 to have it replaced. Not the battery, but Apple will send you a new (or refurbished; we don’t know the details yet) replacement iPad!
All you have to do is sync your device as their policy states your data will not be backed up. Not a big deal as syncing is dead easy with iTunes! This policy varies from the existing iPhone replacement policy. Take a look at how the two differ:
“If your iPad requires service due to the battery’s diminished ability to hold an electrical charge, Apple will replace your iPad for a service fee.”
“If your iPhone requires service only because the battery’s ability to hold an electrical charge has diminished, Apple will service your iPhone for a service fee.”
It’s interesting that Apple has taken this change of policy towards the iPad. They could easily be saving money through the labour involved in opening up the iPad and replacing the battery. These “sent in” iPads could then have their batteries replaced and be sold as refurbished units.
Either way, I think this is awesome news for iPad owners. Pay $99 plus shipping and you’ll get a replacement iPad. Very interesting news!
What do you think? Great news or what? iPhone owners must feel perplexed about this new policy though!
