It looks like Apple has released the iPhone OS 3.2 SDK for the iPad. What does this mean? It means there’s going to be a plethora of apps available for the iPad just in time for its launch in late March. The iPad’s size will mean lots of innovative apps just waiting to take advantage of multitouch on a large surface.
The iPad SDK can now be downloaded via Apple’s iPhone Developer Program. Included is an iPad simulator for testing new apps. Also on the SDK site is an iPad Programming Guide that explains more in detail about how to introduce new features to the iPad and how to implement them into apps.
Apple wants iPad developers to take advantage of these guidelines so they can “deliver unforgettable applications to your customers.” Apple has also debuted a new Universal Application binary format that allows developers to make a single app that can take advantage of the iPhone, iPod, and iPad. This makes it much easier for devs to distribute their apps.
This is going to be an exciting time, as iPad apps will open up a new chapter to the App Store.
