[Updated] Apple Pulls Best Buy iPad 2 Inventory?

by on April 8th, 2011

Quick note for those who are still searching for an iPad 2.

If rumors are to be believed, it seems that Best Buy may not longer be selling the iPad 2. CrunchGear reports that Best Buy may have come into trouble with Apple due to the way the big box retailer was handling iPad 2 sales:

A reader who works at Best Buy just told us that there’s been a bit of a misunderstanding between the electronics retailer and Apple. Apparently, Best Buy was holding off on selling the iPad 2s it had in stock, telling customers there weren’t any when in fact they had just reached their quota of sales for the day.

Apple COO Tim Cook is reportedly involved in the negotiations about the issue.

Also, to make things more interesting, TUAW reports a similar story from an another tipster who claims that “until further notice”, Best Buy has had “all stock except demo units pulled”.

We’ll see how this plays out in the coming weeks.

Update: Best Buy has reportedly sent a statement to BGR regarding the matter:

“Best Buy continues to receive iPad 2 inventory from Apple on a regular basis. As we’ve said previously, we are fulfilling customer reservations first. Our stores have been asked to temporarily hold non-reserved iPad 2 inventory for an upcoming promotion. This is a customary practice for us when there are supply constraints. Best Buy enjoys a great partnership with Apple, and we’re delighted by customer response to iPad 2.”

I believe it, back when I used to work at best buy back in 2002-2003 they did the same thing with other items so they knew they would reach there quota the next day. They would be even more pissed if u didn’t sell a psp with it lol

My buddy works at Futureshop (same owner as Bestbuy, same store pretty much) and he holds items for friends, Pull them off the shelf and marked them as sold until his buddy gets there, or buys them himself for his friend to pick them up.
People were doing that all over with the iPhone 4′s when people were panicing to find them when it first launched so this really doesn’t come as a surprise.

I bet someone just blew the whistle
