PatentlyApple has uncovered new multitouch patents from Apple showcasing various multitouch gestures for iOS devices. The gestures include new mid-drag and micro gestures that could enable additional functionality for iDevices.
The patent documents describe the new gestures with extreme detail, even including neat names such as “Ohm” and “Wiggle”. The gestures draw easy shapes such as stars, arrows, and circles.
In the big picture, Apple states that their newly proposed methods and interfaces will reduce the cognitive burden on a user while saving battery life. If we’re lucky, we may even get to see some of these new gestures playing out in various demo’s at this year’s WWDC keynote.
We remember that Apple was recently working with new multitasking gestures for the iPad in iOS 4, which included swipe gestures to switch between apps and five-finger gestures to reveal the multitasking bar. These gestures however were never publicly released.
It’s unknown when these new multitouch gestures will be released, but they will definitely change the way we use our iPads!
