[Update] Apple Offering $130 Refund To Recent iPad Buyers, Canada Included

Update 1 (March 3, 2011):

I called Apple and they confirmed that refunds were applicable at both Apple Retail and Online Stores, but there are differences. In both stores, you must have a receipt and have purchased your iPad within 14 days of the iPad 2 announcement.

Here’s how you’ll get your money back…

…if you purchased at Apple Retail:
– they’ll refund your original purchase, and then charge the new price

…if you purchased from Apple Online:
– they’ll issue you a $130 credit to your account.

The Apple representative thoroughly explained the situation to me and said Canada was included in the refunds, and he also called the Apple Store at Pacific Centre on my behalf to clarify with retail.

After the iPad 2 announcement, Apple lowered the prices of all first-generation iPad models. Soon after, Electricpig.co.uk reported that Apple will issue a refund for the price difference to recent iPad buyers so long as customers are within the 14-day return window.

We were assured by Apple’s sales team that Apple would just refund the £100 price difference, without any complicated returns and exchanges, so you can take advantage of the price drop on the original iPad. Good news! The catch is that you’ll need to be within the 14-day returns window, which doesn’t leave much wiggle room for those outside of that window. You’ll also need your receipt.

The policy is the standard Apple sales policy, though I’m sure the Apple Store in-store return policy is 14 days instead of the 10 days listed for the online store:

Should Apple reduce its price on any shipped product within 10 days of shipment, you may contact Apple Sales Support at 1-800-MY-APPLE to request a credit of the difference between the price you were charged and the current selling price. To receive the credit you must notify Apple within 14 days of shipment. In the event a credit is given to you, the same credit card that you used to make your purchase will be credited.

The policy applies to iPads purchased in-store and online.
