Apple Making Plans To Launch iBookstore In Canada

by on March 2nd, 2010

One of the killer apps that debuted on the iPad was iBooks with the iBookstore. Unfortunately, at the time of the iPad reveal, the iBooks app and store were USA only. However, many users expected Apple to launch the iBookstore in Canada and that expectation may be true at last!

A new Apple job posting this week details that the company is looking to a hire a Manager for its “Asia Pacific & Canada” iBooks division. This is great news for Canadians, as this job posting essentially confirms that we will not be left out with the iPad books app and store:

The role includes: working with management, regionally and in Cupertino to determine strategies and priorities for iBooks in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other countries; identifying content providers to target, establish and develop relationships; working with legal and production teams to finalize relationships and secure content; and coordinate launches with partners, production, and marketing. This role will also be responsible for marketing the books offering on the iBooks store by coordinating with Apple’s production teams, the marketing team, and the production and marketing teams of partners.

While this job posting is specific to Canada and the Asia Pacific regions, other areas worldwide can expect similar support before the launch of the iPad or soon after.

I received my ipad from the Apple Store last week. No matter what I try, I can only find “free books” with expired copywrites in the Apple ibooks store. If I want to purchase books, I can do so within the Kindle app, but have to read them within that app. Has anyone found a simple way to download modern novels and other books to the ipad within ibooks in Canada?
