According to an iSuppli report, the components cost to Apple for the iPad begin at $259.60USD. That cost represents the 16GB WiFi iPad which retails for $499USD. However, do note that these particular costs by iSuppli do not include such items as development and patent costs.
The most expensive component for the iPad, and also the largest, is the 9.7-inch display coming in at a cost of $95USD. The 32GB WiFi iPad has a total component cost of $289.10 and retails for $599. The 64GB WiFi iPad has a component cost of $348.10 and retails for $699.
The analysis is interesting in that the 32GB and 64GB have marginally higher component costs but very large retail price premiums. The component cost for the 16GB makes up 52% of its selling price where the 32GB cost makes up 48% and the 64GB makes up 49%.
It will be interesting to see the breakdown for the WiFi + 3G iPads where $130USD is added to each base iPad price. The 3G models are expected to release in late April 2010.
