According to Digitimes, it appears Apple will be using backlight units (BLUs) for iPad 3 panels from Taiwan-based Radiant Opto-Electronics, making it the major supplier of BLUs.
LG Display, Samsung, and Sharp will supply Apple with LCD panels for the iPad 3, and Radiant’s BLUs will be part of displays from the mentioned suppliers. Samsung ranks as the second iPad panel supplier, to LGD, but Sharp could overtake the South Korean company if it able to have high yield rates in its upcoming production, according to sources.
iPad 3 rumours have speculated the device has been cancelled for 2011 due to insufficient yield rates for the upcoming Retina Display. The WSJ reported last week sources mentioned an iPad 3 with Retina Display is set to launch for early 2012. Either way, it appears Apple continues to work on perfecting a high resolution display for the next generation iPad.
